Description of ANSYS Tutorial Release 9 |
The nine lessons in this book introduce the reader to effective finite element problem solving by demonstrating the use of the comprehensive ANSYS FEM software in a series of step-by-step tutorials.
Topics covered include problems involving trusses, plane stress, plane strain, axisymmetric and three-dimensional geometries, beams, plates, conduction and convection heat transfer, thermal stress, and more. The tutorials are suitable for either professional or student use.

Contents of ANSYS Tutorial Release 9 |
Lesson 1 - Trusses
utilizes simple, two-dimensional truss models to introduce basic ANSYS
concepts and operation principles.
Lesson 2 - Plane Stress, Plane Strain
covers problems in plane stress and plane strain including a discussion of
determining stress concentration effects. Geometry from a CAD solid modeler is imported into ANSYS for FEM analysis.
Lesson 3 - Axisymmetric Problems
discusses the solution of axisymmetric problems wherein geometry, material properties, loadings and boundary conditions are rotationally symmetric with respect to a central axis.
Lesson 4 - Three-Dimensional Problems
introduces three-dimensional tetrahedron and brick modeling and the various options available for the analysis of complex geometries. Importing models from CAD systems is discussed.
Lesson 5 - Beams
treats problems in structural analysis where the most suitable modeling choice is a beam element. Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional examples are presented.
Lesson 6 - Plates
covers the use of shell (plate) elements for modeling of structural problems of various types.
Lesson 7 - Heat Transfer, Thermal Stress
presents tutorials in the solution of conduction/convection problems of heat
transfer in solids. It concludes with an analysis of a case of thermal stress in an object whose temperature distribution has been determined by an ANSYS thermal analysis.
Lesson 8 - p-Method
introduces the p-method of finite element analysis wherein the accuracy of the elements used in the solution is adjusted in order to give results, which meet preset convergence requirements.
Lesson 9 - Selected Topics
covers additional short topics of interest to the ANSYS user. These include
problems with multiple load cases, determining natural frequencies of structural systems, and others.
